UPDATE: Resources Road between 97 Avenue and 99 Avenue reopened after train derailment

UPDATE: Traffic is back up and running between 99 Avenue and 97 Avenue, as well as 99 Street between 99 Avenue and 97 Avenue.

The Grande Prairie RCMP and CN rail are currently on the scene of a train derailment involving two train cars, that occurred at a railway crossing on resources road at roughly 1:15 a.m. Monday morning.

Due to the derailment, traffic is currently blocked on the roadway between 99 Avenue and 97 Avenue, as well as 99 Street, between 99 Avenue and 97 Avenue.

Motorists are asked to take alternate routes and avoid the area.

Police say there was no spilling of dangerous goods or injuries reported due to the derailment.

This is the second train derailment within the last 10 days in Grande Prairie. On February 4, a train derailment occurred and closed traffic in both directions on the stretch of 68 Avenue between Resources Road and 92 Street.
