County of Grande Prairie records 17th COVID-19 death

The County of Grande Prairie has recorded its 17th COVID-19 related death. The death was a male in his 80s and the case involved pre-existing conditions.

It was one of 14 deaths reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours. Alberta’s COVID-19 death toll now sits at 3,804.

In the county, there were eight new cases and 19 recoveries. It now has 110 active cases.

The City of Grande Prairie reported 49 recoveries and 17 new cases for February 15. There are 310 active cases in the city.

Across Alberta, 888 new cases were identified from 4,117 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 21.5 per cent. There are currently 17,674 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of February 15 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 310 active (-32)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 110 active (-12)
  • MD of Greenview: 60 active (-7)
  • Birch Hills County: three active (+1)
  • MD of Spirit River: 14 active (+3)
  • Saddle Hills County: three active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 109 active (+3)
  • MD of Fairview: 62 active (+8)
  • MD of Smoky River: 72 active (+4)
  • Big Lakes County: 96 active (+9)
  • Clear Hills County: five active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: 18 active (-1)
  • Northern Sunrise County: eight active (-8)
  • Mackenzie County: 84 active (-)

The province saw hospitalizations decrease by 38 patients to 1,500, while 121 of those patients are in the ICU (down two). Of those in the hospital, 401 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 52 of the 121 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 129 people are in hospital (up four), seven of whom are in the ICU (same ).

So far, 90 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.4 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
