Valleyview RCMP say a man they believe shot at police during an investigation on Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation back in October 2021 has been taken into custody after breaching his release order. He is also suspected of committing additional firearms offences.

Thirty-two-year-old Brandon Lee Munro has forty-two criminal code convictions for various offences including drugs, violence, firearms, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, thefts and possession of property obtained by crime.

RCMP say Munro has a strong propensity towards violence and in 2020, the court issued Munro a ten-year prohibition from possessing any firearm.

In September of 2021 RCMP in Valleyview charged Munro with possession of property obtained by crime and driving while prohibited after being found in a stolen vehicle.

On October 1, 2021, Valleyview RCMP members were conducting an investigation related to recovering stolen property when a pick-up truck pulled up to the property on the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. An occupant within the vehicle and fired a shot at Mounties before taking off.

Munro was arrested on October 13, 2021, at Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation and remanded into custody. On December 2, 2021, Munro was released by the courts with conditions.

On January 23, 2022, while bound by his release conditions Munro was the subject of another investigation on the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. This resulted in thirteen additional charges including careless use of a firearm, failing to comply with his release order, possession of property obtained by crime and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Ten days later on February 3, 2022, Munro was again the subject of another investigation. Police say someone led Mounties to a house on Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation after fleeing a traffic stop.

This resulted in another thirteen additional charges against Munro.

Munro is in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on March 3, 2022.
