Grande Prairie records 36 COVID-19 recoveries, 13 new cases

The City of Grande Prairie reported 36 COVID-19 recoveries and 13 new cases for February 16. There are 287 active cases in the city.

In the County of Grande Prairie there were nine recoveries and eight new cases identified. There are 109 active cases in the county.

Across Alberta, 813 new cases were identified from 4,041 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 20 per cent. There are currently 16,551 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of February 16 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 287 active (-23)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 109 active (-1)
  • MD of Greenview: 60 active (-)
  • Birch Hills County: three active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: 14 active (-)
  • Saddle Hills County: four active (+1)
  • MD of Peace: 105 active (-4)
  • MD of Fairview: 69 active (+7)
  • MD of Smoky River: 69 active (-3)
  • Big Lakes County: 88 active (-8)
  • Clear Hills County: five active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: 21 active (+3)
  • Northern Sunrise County: seven active (-1)
  • Mackenzie County: 93 active (+9)

The province saw hospitalizations decrease by nine patients to 1,491, while 116 of those patients are in the ICU (down five). Of those in the hospital, 407 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 52 of the 116 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 135 people are in hospital (up six), six of whom are in the ICU (down one).

There were 18 COVID-19 related deaths reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours, bringing the province COVID-19 death toll to 3,822.

So far, 90 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.4 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
