UPDATE: The hold and secure for PWA and Grande Prairie Composite schools has been lifted.

Students and staff at Peace Wapiti Academy and Grande Prairie Composite have been placed under hold and secure on Thursday morning while the RCMP assesses a situation in the area.

The Peace Wapiti Public School Division and Grande Prairie Public School Division announced the hold and secure on a social media post at 10:25 a.m. February 17.

As a precautionary measure, the division says they will wait for further direction from the RCMP prior to allowing anyone in or out of the building.

Harry Balfour school is not affected by the hold and secure.

PWPSD said on the social media post that hold and secures are put in place when there is a threat or incident in the general vicinity of a school, but not directly related to the school.

“School life continues as normal inside, however, the precautionary measure to lock doors is taken to ensure staff and students are safe and to reduce activity while law enforcement officials conduct their work.”
