Grande Prairie records 36 COVID-19 recoveries, 13 new cases

The City of Grande Prairie reported 25 COVID-19 recoveries and 13 new cases for February 17. There are 275 active cases in the city.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 10 recoveries and 21 new cases identified. There are 120 active cases in the county.

Across Alberta, 619 new cases were identified from 3,766 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 16.4 per cent. There are currently 15,384 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of February 17 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 275 active (-12)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 120 active (+11)
  • MD of Greenview: 53 active (-7)
  • Birch Hills County: three active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: 13 active (-1)
  • Saddle Hills County: four active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 120 active (+15)
  • MD of Fairview: 77 active (+8)
  • MD of Smoky River: 62 active (-7)
  • Big Lakes County: 78 active (-10)
  • Clear Hills County: four active (-1)
  • County of Northern Lights: 17 active (-4)
  • Northern Sunrise County: seven active (-)
  • Mackenzie County: 85 active (-8)

The province saw hospitalizations increase by three patients to 1,494, while 116 of those patients are in the ICU (same). Of those in the hospital, 417 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 52 of the 116 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 135 people are in hospital (same), six of whom are in the ICU (same).

There were eight COVID-19 related deaths reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours, bringing the province COVID-19 death toll to 3,830.

So far, 90 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.4 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
