Family Day events kick off Sunday in Grande Prairie

Grande Prairie is gearing up to celebrate Family Day with a variety of free indoor activities planned for this Sunday.

While Family Day is technically scheduled for February 21, the city has decided hosting it on February 20 would be the best way to allow for families to get out and enjoy the activities.

Originally, the city planned to host outdoor activities alongside indoor activities however, the city opted to cancel outdoor activities because of the threat of inclement weather.

Tracie Gillis the Dryland Sports and Event Logistic Supervisor for Grande Prairie says after two years of not being able to get together they are excited to host a Family Day event in the Swan City.

“With two years of things going on out of our control, we are hoping people come and gather and join us with their families and come celebrate with us,” she said.

“In years past, our Family Day has been our biggest day of the year, and it’s so exciting to see the little ones and whole families come out and enjoy.”

Inside the Eastlink Centre there will be giant games, a hula hoop circus, bouncy castles and a DJ.

Gillis adds there will be free admission into the Eastlink Centre for the day, which includes free access to the fitness centre, fieldhouse, and swimming pool.
