Grande Prairie adds 133 COVID-19 recoveries, 47 new cases over four-day reporting period

The City of Grande Prairie reported 133 COVID-19 recoveries and 47 new cases from Feb. 18-22. There are 189 active cases in the city.

Over the same four-day period in the County of Grande Prairie, there were 53 recoveries and 77 new cases identified. There are 144 active cases in the county.

Local numbers were not released on Tuesday because of a technical error with the Alberta Health reporting system.

Over the last 24 hours, Alberta added 791 new cases from 2,776 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 28.4 per cent. There are currently 11,189 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of February 22 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 189 active (-86)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 144 active (+24)
  • MD of Greenview: 61 active (+8)
  • Birch Hills County: two active (-1)
  • MD of Spirit River: 10 active (-3)
  • Saddle Hills County: four active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 107 active (-13)
  • MD of Fairview: 84 active (+7)
  • MD of Smoky River: 25 active (-25)
  • Big Lakes County: 66 active (-12)
  • Clear Hills County: three active (-1)
  • County of Northern Lights: 11 active (-6)
  • Northern Sunrise County: eight active (+1)
  • Mackenzie County: 81 active (-4)

Over the last 24 hours, the province saw hospitalizations decrease by seven patients to 1,373, while 90 of those patients are in the ICU (down five). Of those in the hospital, 367 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 45 of the 90 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 147 people are in hospital, four of whom are in the ICU.

There were 53 COVID-19 related deaths reported to Alberta Health from Feb. 18-22, bringing the province COVID-19 death toll to 3,883.

So far, 90 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.4 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
