Storm extend winning streak

Make it eight straight wins for the Grande Prairie Storm.

Ethan Strang and Kayden Skulmoski scored and Connor McKenzie picked up the shut out as the Storm blanked Whitecourt 2-0 at home Tuesday night.

The Storm will conclude the season this weekend with games against Spruce Grove on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 6 p.m.

NWJHL playoffs

Wednesday is an off night in the Northwest Junior Hockey League playoffs.

Dawson Creek beat Fairview 3-0 at home Tuesday night in the fifth and deciding game of their opening-round series. The Kodiaks open round two Thursday in Fort St. John. Game 2 Friday is scheduled back in Dawson Creek.

Also Tuesday, Sexsmith beat the Kings 4-2 in Game 1 of their second-round series. Game 2 Friday at the Crosslink County Sportsplex.

All those games start at 8 p.m.

Local rep starts U20 provincials with a win

The lone rink from the Peace Region playing at U20 curling provincials in Cochrane opened with a win this morning.

Cortland Sonnenberg beat the Kenan Wipf team based in Calgary and Cochrane 9-5 in Draw 1 Wednesday morning.

They play the Kyler Kurina team from Okotoks in the 8:30 draw Wednesday night, with the winner of that game moving to an A event qualifier.

Wolves regular seasons winding down

Wolves basketball will host The Kings University Wednesday night at 6 and 8, starting with the women’s game.

The women’s team lost 90-61 at home Tuesday night to Kings. The men won 74-73.

Volleyball visits Kings Thursday at 6 and 8 p.m. to conclude the regular season for the men’s and women’s teams. Both will advance to the playoffs.
