Grande Prairie records 13 new COVID-19 cases, 11 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 13 new COVID-19 cases and 11 recoveries for March 2. There are 116 active cases in the city.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 18 recoveries and no new cases identified over the last 24 hours. There are 138 active cases in the county.

Over the last 24 hours. Alberta added 539 new cases from 2,846 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 18.9 per cent. There are currently 7,945 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of March 2 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 116 active (+2)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 138 active (-18)
  • MD of Greenview: 46 active (-6)
  • Birch Hills County: zero active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: seven active (-)
  • Saddle Hills County: four active (-1)
  • MD of Peace: 122 active (-4)
  • MD of Fairview: 48 active (-1)
  • MD of Smoky River: five active (-2)
  • Big Lakes County: 75 active (+6)
  • Clear Hills County: six active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: eight active (-7)
  • Northern Sunrise County: five active (-4)
  • Mackenzie County: 66 active (-5)

The province saw hospitalizations decrease to 1,204 (down 20), while 80 of those patients are in the ICU (down four).

In the North Zone, 136 people are in hospital (down eight), five of whom are in the ICU (stable).

There were seven COVID-19 related deaths reported in the province for March 2, bringing the province’s death toll to 3,946.

So far, 90.1 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.5 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
