Grande Prairie records nine COVID-19 recoveries, four new cases

The City of Grande Prairie recorded four new COVID-19 cases and nine recoveries for March 7. There are 90 active cases in the city.

The County of Grande Prairie recorded one new COVID-19 cases and three recoveries for Monday. There are now 92 active cases in the county.

Alberta added 467 new cases from 2,202 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 21.2 per cent. There are currently 7,149 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of March 7 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 90 active (-5)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 92 active (-2)
  • MD of Greenview: 38 active (-2)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: 12 active (-)
  • Saddle Hills County: three active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 96 active (-1)
  • MD of Fairview: 37 active (-)
  • MD of Smoky River: 10 active (+2)
  • Big Lakes County: 65 active (-11)
  • Clear Hills County: five active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: six active (-)
  • Northern Sunrise County: eight active (-)
  • Mackenzie County: 47 active (-9)

The province saw hospitalizations increase to 1,106 (up 3), with 77 of those patients in the ICU (same).

In the North Zone, 130 people are in hospital (down 2), six of whom are in the ICU (same).

There were seven COVID-19 related deaths reported in the province over the weekend, bringing the province’s death toll to 3,979.

So far, 90.1 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.6 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.

Alberta also announced on Tuesday that it would be expanding booster doses of COVID-19 vaccine to those aged 12-17 as long as it’s been five or more months since their second dose.
