Independent Investigations Office called in after death of a woman in the BC Peace

B.C. RCMP says they have called in the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of British Columbia after a woman died in a vehicle crash near Fort St. John.

Police say they got a report just before 7 p.m. Wednesday of “an intoxicated and suicidal woman” driving northbound on Highway 97.

Mounties tried to do a traffic stop, but the vehicle did not stop.

The same vehicle was then located upright in a ditch along Highway 97. The woman was found unconscious and outside of that vehicle.

She died on the scene after passers-by and paramedics tried to save her.
