County property re-inspection assessments underway

Mar 14, 2022 | 1:45 PM

The County of Grande Prairie has begun its annual property re-inspection assessments for some homes in the area.

Assessors will be travelling door to door, focusing on the areas of Richmond Hill, Valhalla, and Beaverlodge.

This year’s re-inspection cycle began March 1 and will run until approximately Canada Day.

The county assesses properties to determine their estimated market value annually, which is used to calculate property taxes.

Property re-inspection is a provincial policy requiring municipalities to perform ongoing re-inspections and complete overall inspections of all properties over a five-year cycle.

Chief Assessor Chris Gardner says residents with properties due for re-inspection should have received a letter and Request for Information in February asking them to self-report any changes to their property.

Gardner adds in a release that assessors will conduct re-inspections during regular business hours.

“They will be wearing photo identification badges, driving county vehicles, and may take exterior photos or ask questions as part of the assessment process,” he said.

If more information is required, a call-back card will be left on the front door of any residents who are not home.

Residents who received a letter and wish to self-report changes to their property can do so using one of three options:

  • Complete the online form through the link provided in the letter.
  • Complete and then mail the questionnaire to the County.
  • Contact the Assessment Department to complete the questionnaire by email or over the phone.

All information collected during the re-inspection is subject to the Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act.

Residents with questions are asked to contact the Assessment Department at 780-513-3952.
