Local high school basketball teams taking part in Alberta provincials

Several teams from the Peace Region will be taking part in provincial high school basketball tournaments across Alberta over the next three days.

The Comp girls and Charles Spencer boys are at 4A provincials in Lethbridge.

St. Joesph Catholic High School from Grande Prairie will have both its boys and girls teams competing in provincial tournaments this year.

The boy’s team from St. Joe’s is ranked as the ninth seed in the 3A Boys division. Each team will get to play in at least three games during the weekend. They will play Morinville Community school in their first game.

The tournament is taking place at Strathmore High School.

The girl’s team from St. Joesph is also playing in the 3A Girls division and will play Holy Rosary in its first tournament game. They’ll be joined by Peace Wapiti Academy (PWA) in the same division. PWA will play Mother Margret Mary in round one.

The 3A Girls tournament is taking place in Red Deer.

Other schools from the Peace Region taking part in provincials will see Glenmary of Peace River playing in the 2A Girls tournament. They are ranked as the number three seed and will play Three Hills in their first game. The Glenmary boys are playing at their 2A provincials in Calgary.

The Worsley boys team is taking part in the 1A Boys division provincials. Their first game was at 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning where they lost 72-67 to E.H. Walter. They will also play games on Friday and Saturday.

St. Thomas More from Fairview is at 1A girls in Cremona.
