Grande Prairie records one new COVID-19 case & recovery

The City of Grande Prairie recorded one new case of COVID-19 along with one recovery for Thursday, March 17. There are 66 active cases in the city.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there was one new COVID-19 case and five recoveries identified over the last 24 hours. There are 38 active cases in that region.

Alberta added 502 new cases from 2,925 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 17.1 per cent. There are currently 6,583 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of March 17 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 66 active (-)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 38 active (-5)
  • MD of Greenview: 17 active (-)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: 14 active (-1)
  • Saddle Hills County: three active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 42 active (+4)
  • MD of Fairview: 11 active (-)
  • MD of Smoky River: 13 active (-)
  • Big Lakes County: 48 active (+1)
  • Clear Hills County: four active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: one active (-)
  • Northern Sunrise County: seven active (-)
  • Mackenzie County: 22 active (-2)

The province saw hospitalizations decrease to 966 (down one), with 62 of those patients in the ICU (down five).

In the North Zone, 126 people are in hospital (up two), three of whom are in the ICU (same).

Four more COVID-19 related deaths were reported by Alberta Health, bringing the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the province to 4,023.

Friday marked the last daily COVID-19 update that will be issued by Alberta Health. All future updates will be made weekly on Wednesdays going forward.

The weekly updates are also expected to include a live media update with chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw.
