Search of residence leads to drug seizure, two arrested

The Grande Prairie RCMP says it conducted a search warrant of a residence on Feb. 26 which led to the seizure of various drugs and drug trafficking items.

Mounties say at 9:15 a.m. on Feb. 26, they received a 911 call of a robbery that had just occurred at a residence in the area of 97 Avenue and 99 Street.

A preliminary investigation into the matter found that three individuals attended the residence, and while inside, authorities explain that a suspect took out a firearm, threatened the male and obtained a quantity of Canadian currency.

Police say the altercation resulted in the resident being sprayed with bear mase before the three suspects fled on foot.

While searching for the suspects, police were able to locate a male youth matching a suspect description. He was arrested, however, mounties were unable to locate the other two suspects.

While inside the residence, police observed several indicators of drug trafficking, which resulted in the male resident being arrested.

A search warrant was obtained for the residence.

Inside the residence, police were able to locate what was believed to be:

  • 6.7 kilograms of dried cannabis
  • 1.4 kilograms of cannabis resin
  • 113 cannabis vape pens and 84 refill cartridges
  • 222 packages of cannabis edibles
  • 1.7 kilograms of psilocybin
  • 89 bottles of liquid cannabis edibles
  • 56 tabs of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD)

A debit machine, advertising material and multiple other items relating to drug trafficking were also seized by police during the search.

Police have charged 28-year-old Drew Bryan Fertuck of Grande Prairie with possession for the purpose of trafficking psilocybin, possession of a controlled substance LSD and possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling.

The male youth charged was 16-years-old and is being charged with robbery with a firearm and failure to comply with a youth sentence order. His name cannot be released to the public because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Following a judicial hearing, the 16-year-old was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on March 21.

Fertuck was released from custody on an undertaking and is set to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on May 2.
