Plans for 2022 State of the Region event unveiled

Mar 22, 2022 | 10:53 AM

The Grande Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce have finalized plans for their annual State of the Region event.

It will be held on April 22 at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Grande Prairie Airport, with the presentations by City of Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton, County of Grande Prairie Reeve Leanne Beaupre, and M.D. of Greenview Reeve Tyler Olsen also being streamed online.

A question and answer session will follow.

This is the second year that the county and the M.D. have joined the city in this event, which chamber board chair Tertius Genis feels is important given the regional-based approach of the area.

“This gives our municipal leaders an opportunity to not only update the people in their communities, but also it is a great opportunity for the leaders themselves to hear from their counterparts,” he explained.

After last year’s event was held solely online, Genis says you have the option of attending this year’s presentations in person, on viewing them online via Zoom.

“There will be an in-person buffet lunch (prior to the presentations).”

“Also a bit different this year, Mayor Clayton and Reeves Beaupre and Olsen will provide information that will span a number of themes,” said Genis. “The themes that we will cover include economic development, community programs, infrastructure, advocacy, and inter-municipal collaboration.”

Genis feels the timing for this year’s event is appropriate.

“Especially as we emerge from a lengthy period of various challenges and uncertainties. I think it will be very appropriate with this event now, we have a budget that was just released, and also the municipalities have completed their strategic planning sessions, and we also are operating now in an environment with less restrictions.”

Tickets are $50 for the in-person event and $20 to view it via Zoom.

Tickets are available through the Chamber office.
