Grande Prairie Museum set to launch new exhibit April 9

The Grande Prairie Museum is set to launch a new exhibit on April 9.

The new exhibit is called “The Boreal Forest at Night” and is meant to teach youth about the Boreal Forest and the animals who live inside it.

Museum Curator Charles Taws tells EverythingGP they have made a goal to help youth learn more about the famous forest.

“This exhibit is aimed at smaller children. Basically, they get to walk through the forest at night and find the animals and the animals they’ll find are the typical animals (inside the Boreal Forest) you’ll find at night time,” he explained.

“The forest ends with a bat cave they can crawl into or walk into and then go through and see the projections of bats flying around. It’s very atmospheric, it has sounds effect and we’ve lowered the lighting.”

With the exhibit launching on April 9, Taws says they have lots of special events planned for the public to enjoy.

The exhibit will launch with a book event from 2-5 p.m., centered around the book launch of “Finding Moose” by Sue Farrell Holler, according to Curator Charles Taws.

“There will be three readings of the book throughout the afternoon, we’ll be serving cake and ice cream and the exhibit will be open at that time too.”

There will also be a discovery table, crafts and a scavenger hunt youth can participate in as well.

Taws hopes the new exhibit will be able to create some buzz for youth in the community.

“When we did the sasquatch exhibit years ago, we tried to make an atmosphere and that’s what we tried to do here — to make it a little more special type of exhibit. It’s aimed at smaller kids and we think they’re going to enjoy it,” he said.
