Local Ukrainian Catholic Parish to host traditional dinner fundraiser Sunday

Grande Prairie’s Ukrainian Catholic Parish is hosting a Ukrainian dinner fundraiser on Sunday in support of the Ukrainians impacted by Russia’s military invasion of their country.

Father Matthew Drury says the fundraiser is by donation at the door.

“We don’t have any set prices, just a donation at the door to be a means of our attention to what’s going on presently in Ukraine with the invasion and the war.”

Father Drury says they wanted to host a fundraiser in Grande Prairie to help support Ukraine as they locally represent Ukrainians around the world.

“Being a Ukrainian community here within the greater community of Grande Prairie we felt a want and responsibility to do something to help alleviate the people suffering,” he explained.

He tells EverythingGP all the proceeds from the event go to help meet the needs of Ukrainians impacted by the war.

“Whatever we possibly can raise, (will go) to our direct contacts in Ukraine,” he said.

“It is a humanitarian project that we want to extend both to Grande Prairie residents and neighbouring areas.”

He says the meal will feature a traditional Ukrainian-style meal, including perogies, kubasa, mixed salads, refreshers, and a dessert.

“Our Eastern European women will be doing most of the cooking and of course, we have to have people who know what they are doing.”

The fundraiser will be held Sunday, March 27 from 5-8 p.m. at the Ukrainian Catholic Parish in Grande Prairie.
