2024 Alberta Winter Games Bid Committee seeking letters of support

Mar 26, 2022 | 6:00 AM

The 2024 Alberta Winter Games Bid Committee is seeking letters of support to help improve its chances of hosting the 2024 games.

A successful bid could see the winter games bring in over 2,800 athletes, coaches and officials for the three-day event.

Mike Hussey is one of the committee members helping spearhead the 2024 bid.

He tells EverythingGP, letters of support are important in order to convince decision-makers that our city will be a great host for the event.

“I think the bid committee is looking for support from local businesses and organizations,” he said.

“It could be businesses that would benefit from the games or businesses and organizations that are just in full support of the community and bringing the games here to Grande Prairie.”

Hussey feels the letters can go a long way in making a positive impact on those reviewing the bid.

“We want to make sure that we show the decision-makers that we have the support of the community at large. We all want to come together and support the games with fan power, financial support and enthusiasm to make them go off as successful as possible.”

Letters of support can be sent to Laura LaValley by emailing laura@buildingtomorrowtoday.com and must be submitted by April 11.

Hussey tells EverythingGP he’s confident about the city’s bid to earn the right to host the bid.

“Thursday was my first meeting, and I was asked to become the chair. The bid committee they’ve got together is incredible. They’ve been working together for several months and already have the bid package well on the way,” he explained.

“They are well on their way to having an excellent bid package and it’s quite nice that many of the people part of the current bid committee are back from the 2018 summer games. We’re pretty confident Grande Prairie will be selected to host the games in 2024.”
