Two arrested following February cabin break and enter in Watino

The Western Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit has arrested and charged two Hines Creek residents following a break and enter at a cabin in February.

Back on Feb. 25, McLennan RCMP received a report of a break and enter to a cabin located in the Hamlet of Watino, which is located roughly 96 kilometres northeast of Grande Prairie. Police say with the assistance of the Western Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit, suspects were identified.

On March 11, mounties located one of the suspects operating a stolen pick-up in the Hines Creek area. Authorities arrested the female driver of the vehicle. Police say the items recovered in the stolen vehicle were linked to the cabin break and enter.

As a result, 23-year-old Kailyn Diane Verquin of Hines Creek has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, break and enter, fraudulent concealment, possession of meth, and five counts of illegal possession of identity documents.

After a judicial hearing, Verquin was released from custody and is set to appear in Falher Provincial Court on Apr. 7, 2022.

Then on March 12, RCMP conducted a search warrant at a house in Hines Creek, which resulted in the arrest of 34-year-old Anthony Aaron Roshuk.

Police charged Roshuk with break and enter. He was released from custody and is set to appear in Falher Provincial Court on Apr. 7, 2022.

“The stolen truck that was recovered by police was linked to several occurrences in the Red Deer area in recent weeks and was stolen from Whitecourt in January of 2022,” said Sgt. Chris Power of the Rural Crime Reduction Unit.

“This provides an example of the mobility of the criminals that prey upon rural Albertans and how one stolen vehicle can be used to commit crime in multiple jurisdictions over a period of several weeks.”
