Dignity drive returns, looking to better fall intake

Apr 5, 2022 | 12:26 PM

The five Rotary Clubs in Grande Prairie have once again joined forces this month for the Community Dignity drive.

The event is held each spring and fall in support of the city’s homeless and street-involved population.

Swan City Rotary Club member and Dignity Drive committee member Heather Jones explains what they’re looking for.

“Our main target is new socks and underwear,” she said.

“Of course, all hygiene items are welcome. It is really aimed at getting access to clean socks and underwear for comfort and health and hygiene of our street-involved people.”

Jones adds they have set a goal of exceeding donation totals from their last drive held last fall.

“Grande Prairie continues to show support every time so our goal gets bigger and bigger, and Grande Prairie never stops giving,” she explained.

“Our fall drive raised about 13-hundred pounds of items, so that would be our goal. We always have a target, but we will always accept whatever the community gives us.”

According to Jones, drop-off bins are located at several spots across the city.

“Costco, Keddie’s, and Centre 2000 all have a bin where you can drop donations off. As well, on April 23rd from 11 am to 2 pm, we will be set up in the parking lot of Centre 2000, where you can also bring donations.”

Jones says the in-person event was held for the first time last spring, and was very popular, as they collected a majority of donations for that campaign during that event.

The Dignity Drive wraps up on April 30th.
