Farrell Holler: Finding Moose

Muskoseepi moose inspires new children’s book, launch party Saturday

A moose in Muskossepi Park was the inspiration behind the newest children’s book for a Grande Prairie author.

The book by Sue Farrel Holler is called Finding Moose.

Holler explains what led to the inspiration behind her work.

“What makes it extra special for Grande Prairie is that it is inspired by a moose from Muskoseepi Park. It’s one that I often saw and I gave her a nickname, Miss Millie, she’s not called that in the book though,” she explained.

“But, it’s a story about a boy and his grandfather who are going for a walk in the woods and they are looking for all the signs of moose and are finding all the signs of spring as well.”

Aimed at children aged four to seven years old, Farrell Holler says Finding Moose is a companion book to her book, “Raven, Rabbit, Deer.”

She tells EverythingGP that launching this book this time around will be a lot different than when she released “Raven, Rabbit, Deer.” Holler will be celebrating the release of the book with an in-person book launch on April 9.

“I think that’s why I’m so excited, my last book was launched in December 2020 and we did a virtual launch but it was not the same thing, so this whole idea of seeing people again and seeing kids that play and enjoy themselves is going to be marvelous”

Farrell Holler says the book launch party is taking place on Saturday, April 9 at the Grande Prairie Museum from 2 to 5 p.m.

She explains the launch party is in conjunction with the museum’s “Boreal Forest at Night” exhibit, which is meant to teach youth about the boreal forest and the animals that live inside it.

“We have a lot of activities going on, there will be a scavenger hunt, cake, crafts, a discovery table, and of course, storytime.”

Farrell Holler will be on-hand throughout the afternoon to sign books and to offer readings at 3:30 and 4:15 p.m.

Those looking to purchase Finding Moose can find it online, at the Grande Prairie Museum bookshop, or any children’s bookstores.
