T.V. series set to be filmed in Grande Prairie, production crew searching for locals to be extras

Apr 13, 2022 | 2:25 PM

Grande Prairie will be the location for the filming of a T.V. series this May, and the production crew of that series is looking for locals to take part as extras.

Head of Advocacy with Keep Alberta Rolling and in charge of finding extras Brock Skrutting tells EverythingGP there are lots of films and shows being shot in Alberta right now, and Grande Prairie was the next location the production crew was looking to go.

“I can’t say which television series, but there is many big television series that are shooting in the province right now thanks to a change in government policy. We’ve attracted and grown the industry over the last couple of years here, and we’re seeing a shoot here come to Grande Prairie which is very exciting.”

“In the past, Grande Prairie hasn’t necessarily been known for the film industry as much and we’re excited the series has chosen to utilize some of the area for their show,” he explained.

Skrutting says they’re looking for all different types of people to potentially take part.

“We basically work with the casting department. They’re looking for men and women between 25-50 and all ethnicities to get some extras in the show.”

“It’s going to be filmed in Grande Prairie early to mid-May. They haven’t exactly nailed down the start date yet, but it’s coming up pretty soon here. They’ll do (wardrobe) fittings and give everyone the rundown,” he added.

Skrutting says extras selected will need to be fully committed for the duration of the shooting.

“The days can be quite long. It would be a full-time commitment for at least a couple of weeks,” he explained.

“Obviously, this is not a student’s film. This is a legitimate T.V. show, so it would be paid and full-time employment for a couple weeks at least. They’ve indicated to me they’re going to pick at least 20-30 people and there may be more depending on how many they do need.”

Those interested in signing up are asked to send a picture of themselves along with contact info to grandeprairie.extras@gmail.com.

Skrutting gave some tips on what can help your application stand out.

“Don’t send in a selfie, try to get someone else to take a picture of you. They have in the past been looking for slender or weathered kind of looks. Something to keep in mind, but it’s not only that.”

EverythingGP reached out to the City of Grande Prairie if they had any information on what exactly is going to be shot in the Swan City this May.

The City of Grande Prairie tells EverythingGP they don’t know what is being filmed, but did confirm HBO’s The Last of Us was location scouting earlier this year in the city.
