Court update: Preliminary hearing dates set in murder case, trial ordered and trial dates set in sexual assault cases

RCMP said at the time a man’s body was found in an apartment building on Poplar Drive on October 13, 2019.

A Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued for Pearson in May of 2020. Authorities here then asked their counterparts in the US to arrest Pearson and return him to Canada.

Pearson was arrested by the FBI in Minneapolis, Minnesota July 26, 2021, and was returned to Canada on February 18 of this year.

The second man charged, Benjamin Pearson of Kelowna, is serving a 10-year jail sentence after pleading guilty to charges of manslaughter and possession of a prohibited firearm November 17, 2021, in Grande Prairie court.

Trial ordered in sexual assault, sexual interference case

Alberta Justice says a trial has been ordered in a case involving sexual assault and sexual interference charges against a suspect.

Grande Prairie RCMP said at the time they received a report on May 28, 2021, of sexual offences involving someone they described as “a young child” and that these incidents took place between 2018 and 2020.

A trial date has not been set.

A court-ordered publication ban prohibits the release of any information that may identify the victim or witnesses.

Trial date set in sexual assault case involving underage victims

Alberta Justice says trial dates have been set in a case involving a sexual assault charge and underage victims.

The accused is facing a total of three charges. A four-day trial is set to start February 28, 2023, in Grande Prairie court.

RCMP said at the time that a suspect was charged in February of last year after allegations dating back to 2016.

The same suspect already has a 12-month peace bond in place related to a similar case while charges in a third were dismissed.

A court-ordered publication ban prohibits the release of any information that may identify the victims or witnesses.
