He was originally charged with murder after the May 17, 2020, death of 34-year-old Christopher Valliquette of Swan River First Nation.

RCMP said at the time they were called to the home after a report that a man had died of stab wounds.

The murder charge was withdrawn a few months later.

Sentence given to one of two men charged after thefts from oilfield sites

Alberta Justice says one of two men charged after thefts from oilfield sites near Grande Prairie has been given jail time.

Lloyd Hagedorn of Grande Prairie was given 270 days in jail after pleading guilty to a charge of flight from a peace officer April 13 in Grande Prairie court. He was given shorter concurrent sentences for charges of theft under $5000, possession of break-in instruments, failure to comply with a release order, and operating a vehicle while prohibited.

RCMP said at the time that on April 2, 2021, Mounties saw two suspects committing an offence at two oilfield sites northwest of Grande Prairie. This came after an investigation into a rising number of such thefts started in March of last year.

After the two left the site, police tried to pull the vehicle over. The two were arrested after trying to get away.

A trial for the second man charged, Robert Yates also of Grande Prairie, is set for June 22.

Also on April 13, Hagedorn was given a 180-day consecutive sentence after pleading guilty to charges of flight from a peace officer, possession of break-in instruments, and possession of stolen property under $5000 related to a 2020 arrest.

Drug, weapon arrest leads to sentence for one of two people charged

Alberta Justice says one of two people charged after drugs and a .22 rifle were seized during a March 2021 traffic stop has been sentenced.

Jonathon Anderson was given 90-days time served after pleading guilty to charges of possession of stolen property over $5000 and possession of a prohibited firearm.

Eight charges against co-accused Lenny Bolton were withdrawn

Anderson was also given 90-days time served in relation to a separate arrest.

He and Bolton were charged after a vehicle stop on March 11, 2021.

Mounties said at the time that just before 2 a.m., police located a suspicious vehicle while patrolling in the area of 101 Street and 111 Avenue.

Investigators found the license plate was not registered to the vehicle and that the vehicle had been stolen.

A search of that same vehicle turned up cocaine, heroin, and a loaded .22 rifle.
