AltaLink donates $1.2 million to STARS Air Ambulance

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A major energy company in the province has made a sizable donation to a medical air rescue service.

Gary Hart, President and COO of AltaLINK, says they made the $1.2 million donation to help with STARS Air Ambulance’s Keep the Fight in Flight Campaign.

“There is nothing more important to us at AltaLink than safety. Our teams work 24/7, often in remote areas, to deliver the energy that Albertans need, when they need it most. STARS can turn a tragic event into a life-saving one, so we’re incredibly proud to support the important work they do and ensure that STARS can continue to deliver critical care that communities need for many years to come.”

Keep the Fight in Flight is an initiative to renew STARS’ fleet of aging aircraft with nine new Airbus H145 helicopters.

They are estimated to cost approximately $13 million each.

Andrea Robertson, President and CEO of STARS, says this contribution will go a long way in helping them to reach their goal.

“With this generous gift to our fleet renewal initiative, AltaLink is truly making a generational investment in the health and safety of the communities we serve, helping us deliver critical care to patients living, working, or playing in rural and remote areas for decades to come.”

STARS’ first H145 aircraft came into operation in 2019, already serving 100s of missions.

Earlier this year, the Alberta Government more than doubled its annual funding commitment to the service from $7 million to $15 million.
