GP STORM

Storm prospects camp on tap beginning Friday

Apr 29, 2022 | 11:00 AM

The process of forming the 2022-23 edition of the Grande Prairie Storm begins this weekend.

Around 130 players are in town for the club’s prospects camp.

General Manager Mark Bomersback is excited to see what they have for talent.

“We have a lot of kids coming in. Some of these kids I have seen and some I have not, so hopefully we will be surprised by a few and overall it should be a great weekend. I know everyone is excited and can not wait to get things going here.”

Bomersback talks about the characteristics he is looking to build next year’s club around.

“We want to be a team that is skilled and has speed, and you want to have some size as well, which those three things are tough to come by. The way the game is played is a fast game and these kids are so skilled, so we definitely want that. Also maybe some size down the middle as we want to be bigger at center.”

The Storm have yet to hire a new coach for next season, but General Manager Mark Bomersback does not think the lack of a head coach being present will make things more challenging this weekend.

“Obviously, we would like him to be there, and have his opinion on guys as well. But I mean that is my job as General Manager is to find players and pick players. And that is what I intend on doing.”

On-ice sessions begin Friday at 3 pm, with the prospects being split into 8 teams for the weekend.

Scrimmages are set for Saturday and Sunday.

The camp will take place at Bonnett’s Energy Centre.
