GPLT preparing for 60th anniversary season

May 9, 2022 | 10:40 AM

Grande Prairie Live Theatre is set to launch its 60th season this fall.

Their schedule of shows for the 60th anniversary season will be unveiled during a special social event this Sunday.

Incoming GPLT president Wade Fleming feels the theatre group has been an important part of Grande Prairie’s arts community since being formed in 1962.

“We have really brought to the community a tremendous amount of not only local talent, but also an escape for sometimes 10, 12, 16 hour days that a lot of people in this town go through. It gives them a chance to have a date night and to come out and see some very good entertainment.”

Besides unveiling their 2022-23 schedule, GPLT will also announce the audition dates for next season’s shows.

Fleming says they want to hit as many genres as they can with the anniversary season schedule.

“We are looking at doing some fun and exciting things. And who knows, we might even have some first time ever seen type of shows announced as well.”

Fleming says it is the volunteers that are the biggest reason why they have been around for so long.

“Other than the manager of the theatre and a tech person and an assistant or two, really our payroll is very minor compared to the number of people that are involved in the theatre.”

“I think at last count we have over 300 volunteers who work tirelessly for the enjoyment of other people, to enjoy the talent that we have here in town.”

The unveiling social is set for 2 pm on Sunday at Grande Prairie Live Theatre

Refreshments will be served and there will be live entertainment during the event.

The public is welcome to attend.
