Peace River Hot Honey up for 2022 Made in Alberta Readers Choice Award

May 13, 2022 | 12:44 PM

Honey Bunny in the hamlet of Guy, AB has been nominated once again for a Made in Alberta Readers Choice Award, but this year for their new Peace River Hot Honey product line.

Hot, Bourbon Hot and Pineapple Jalapeno are the three flavours that were launched to the public in September 2021.

Gilbert and Sharon Wolfe along with their three children: Paige, Taylor and Brett run Honey Bunny Inc., which started in 2006 but dates back to father Gilbert beekeeping since he was 14 years old.

Sales and Marketing Manager of Honey Bunny, Paige Wolfe says everything is processed and packaged at their apiary and facility in Guy.

“In addition to creamed honey and liquid honey we recently launched our hot honey line and that’s the product that we are up for a Made in Alberta award!”

“We also have a barbeque sauce and a ketchup that are sweetened with the honey from our apiary and they are packaged in a unique, stand-up pouch.”

Two of their products were chosen as finalists in the Made in Alberta Awards; in 2021 for Amazing Dad’s™ BBQ Sauce and in 2020 for Bodacious Tomato Ketchup.

“Being published in magazines we saw that a lot of people were writing in saying they were finding the products because of the nomination and being named a finalist, so there’s a ton of value in the award which is really exciting.” Paige told Everything GP.

Honey Bunny Inc. products can be found across Canada in Walmart, TJMaxx brands, Save on Foods, Co-op food stores, Bass Pro Shop, Safeway, Sobeys, Metro, Loblaw’s, and Costco.

They can be found in Freson Bros. across Alberta and “in Grande Prairie you can find the hot honeys at GP Smokin’ Pellets & Rub, Signature Backyard & BBQ, Health Hut and Homesteader Health Foods.”

“A lot of the honey that you see on the shelves in the big box stores is often packaged by packers without bees of their own, so we are able to give consumers a look inside where their honey is actually coming from, hence the name Peace River Honey.” Paige noted.

A picture of Gilbert and Sharon Wolfe can be found on the side of every honey jar, “so they know who’s making it and it really helps to increase that consumer trust especially with honey. You want to make sure you know where it’s coming from and authentic.”

“We are really excited to be able to share the product with the world and have it recognized on this scale.” Paige spoke on being nominated in the sweet foods category.

The public can vote in the 2022 Made in Alberta Readers Choice Awards until May 24, 2022!
