A custom order has turned into a great success for a Fairview woman’s leather designs business.

Range Road 21’s Flower Snips Holster has been nominated for a Made in Alberta Readers Choice Award. The business has only been in operation for two years.

Owner Jenessa McLean, says she started off by making keychains to spend less time on the phone in the evening.

“It seemed like an easy solution, and now here we are making bags and flower snips holsters… a little bit further than keychains.”

A few items from Range Road 21 can be found in Fairview at The Old Bistro and in Grimshaw at Raediance Florist and Gift Shop. McLean’s designs can mostly be ordered online through her website, where inquiries about custom pieces can also be taken.

“It’s kind of unreal actually to be a part of the contest,” she noted on being nominated.

The Flower Snips Holster was originally a custom order McLean says.

“…from Echo Hill Farms out by Sexsmith, she wanted one. So I made one for her, posted it, and all of the sudden there were a lot of other people that needed one!”

“There was a lady from down in Tennessee that does flower farming and she posted about my Flower Snips Holsters and that brought in a whole bunch more people,” she says.

Range Road 21 sources its leather from a supplier in Edmonton as well as in New Brunswick.

McLean says the style of her pieces is rustic or country-style, “it’s simple and classic, somewhere between western and Louis Vuitton!”

The leather can also be engraved by laser she noted, “the cool part with the engraver I have is I can take pictures and engrave something like a handwritten note, it just really opens up the customization for customers.”

Voting for the Made in Alberta Readers Choice Awards closes next Tuesday.
