Alberta has announced three more K to Grade 6 subjects will be part of a pilot project in the new school year as the rollout of the new curriculum continues.

“The updated draft curriculums ready for piloting are Science, French first language and literature, French immersion language arts and literature,” Education Minister Adrianna La Grange announced Tuesday.

LaGrange says this will be in addition to K to Grande 3 Math, Language Arts and Physical Education pilots announced earlier. School divisions have until June 6 to decide if they want to take part in the pilot projects.

She adds this decision wasn’t just made in a board room. Alberta received expert advice from the Curriculum Implementation Advisory Group, along with receiving over 34,000 online surveys over the course of a year.

“This feedback along with feedback from previous classroom piloting was used to update the three draft K-6 curriculums subjects this fall,” stated LaGrange.

LaGrange says her goal since starting as Minister of Education is to put the best curriculum possible In front of their students and she believes the government is taking another step toward that goal by introducing these new ways to learn.
