Firefighters say Monday wildfire was due to campfire at a well site

May 24, 2022 | 4:31 PM

The Beaverlodge Fire Rescue Team is asking in a Facebook post if everyone remembered to put out their campfire over the long weekend.

The post says crews from Beaverlodge, Wembley and La Glace spent ten hours fighting a wildfire in dense bush on Monday that the Fire Rescue Team says was driven by the wind and started at a shut-in oil & gas site.

A specific location was not given.

The same post says it looks like there were several campfires that were not put out properly put at the same well site and goes on to say these sites are not good spots for campfires because of the potential for flammable gas and liquids and the possibility of hydrogen sulfide in the air.
