Grande Prairie and area ready for a overwhelming return of tourism in Alberta

May 24, 2022 | 10:00 AM

‘Revenge Tourism’ is the new term coined for the return of events that are coming back and new to the Peace Region this summer.

After a large gap in community events and functions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Executive Director of the Grande Prairie Regional Tourism Association Ken Loudin says “this is a great opportunity and time for Grande Prairie moving forward.”

“It’s going to be one of those ‘golden goose’ opportunities for tourism within the province of Alberta and specifically this region.”

“People want out of their existing locations and they want to experience unique, authentic, wide-open, uncommercialized things… and we are primed and poised for those experiences.” Loudin says.

Loudin added a number of events happening in Grande Prairie and area coming, including but not limited to:

  • Grande Prairie Stompede – May 25-29 at Evergreen Park
  • GrandeCon – July 15-17 at Bonnets Energy Centre
  • East Coast Garden Party – July 21-24 at South Creek Ball Diamonds
  • Bear Creek Folk Festival – August 12-14 at Muskoseepi Park

“It’s the returning of some past and what was before as well as the creativity of bringing new product to the region thats going to accelerate the draw for people to come.” he says.
