Stomper of the Year

Stomper of the Year awarded to RaeDawn Barker

May 25, 2022 | 6:00 AM

The Grande Prairie Stompede officially kicked off on Tuesday with the Bust Out BBQ and awards presentations.

RaeDawn Barker is the Stomper of the Year. This is given to a Stompede Committee member for exceptional volunteer service annually but was last given in 2019.

Barker has been involved with Stompede for over a decade and was very surprised when she was named for receiving the honour.

“It’s huge, it’s actually the biggest honour because it is the people that you spend all your time with. The Stompede is a family on its own and we spend half of our lives together. It takes a lot of work and a lot of dedication and being able to be recognized by the rest of the board for that is… it is a real honour. I am actually speechless for the first time in my life.” Barker says.

Barker notes it takes a lot of volunteers and hours to put on an event this big. “After being gone for almost three years we’ve seen a huge group just come together and rally for us to bring this show back to the Peace and it’s been incredible.”

Other awards presented at the Grande Prairie Stompede 2022 Bust Out BBQ on Tuesday included:

  • Bernie Benson – Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Orval and Betty Sorken – 2022 Wagonmaster
