Pollution control invention being supported by GPRIN

May 26, 2022 | 1:35 PM

A gas generator exhaust filter to remove particles like; chlorine, sulfur, aluminum, zinc, phosphorus, and carbon from entering our air and water has been invented by a Stony Plain man and is being aided by the Grande Prairie Regional Innovation Network.

The Carbon Trap is mounted near a gas generator exhaust to reduce one’s environmental impact through the filtering of harmful pollutants by burning fossil fuels.

The inventor of Carbon Trap, Kevin Tkachuk says the idea came to him three years ago while at his cabin in the bush running his generator.

“A lot of soot was building up on the plants (from the generator), after a rain would come by it would wash it away and make its way down into the water and I thought well I’m going to try to stop this and keep it from getting into the air and water.”

Tkachuk says Carbon Trap is a “mom and pop operation” and its main focus is pollution control.

“Do your part. It’s all about the environment, you know we are going to be using fossil fuels for the foreseeable future no matter what and we should be doing something in the meantime to mitigate our impact.”

Carbon Trap partnered with GPRIN for just about six months Tkachuk says.

“We are working with Red Deer College’s engineering department. They are helping us with better ways to manufacture, design changes that might help, and all kinds of things all thanks to RIN.”

“GPRIN has been a god-send for us, it really has,’ he says.

Tkachuk says they can be used every day, including: “when you are camping with your fifth wheel, running a generator, light towers in the industry… there’s a never-ending amount of generators that could have a Carbon Trap on them.”

Carbon Trap can only be bought on their website.
