Peace Region farmers making progress with seeding

The May 24 crop report from the province says 36.6 per cent of the Peace Region crop has been seeded.

That is up from 2.5 percent completed in the May 17 crop report.

The five-year average for this time of year is 63.1 per cent.

The report says 44.7 per cent of the dry peas, 39.6 per cent of the spring wheat, 34.5 per cent of the canola, 32.2 per cent of the barley, and 30.8 per cent of the oats are in the ground.

Just under 60 per cent of soil moisture conditions are rated good, just over 28.5 per cent excellent, and the rest is considered fair.

The report also says 84 per cent of the pasture and 81 per cent of the tame hay is in good to excellent condition.
