Symon Pfau is the 2022 Clairmont Volunteer of the Year recipient.

This award is given to someone who shows dedication and excellence in volunteerism within the hamlet.

Pfau is a coach for the Clairmont Minor Hockey Club and has been for four years now. He is being recognized for his ability to make sure players are always enjoying themselves while they learn and grow as a team.

“When you build a team, it takes a lot of commitment from players, coaches, and parents who put in endless hours behind the scenes. Being nominated means a lot and I feel honored to represent part of the hard work put into these kids,” says Pfau in a news release from the county.

Pfau is no stranger to giving back. He is also the football coach at the Composite High School where he teaches.

He adds wins and losses aren’t the things that make him feel successful as a coach…

“If people see me as someone who helped their child’s love of playing sports, then I’m a successful coach. A kid will work really hard for you if they see you care about them and what they like.”

Pfau also touched on how much he loves this area and his great support team around him.

“I love helping out in the community and I’m lucky my two sons and wife, Raelynn are so supportive.”

Division 2 Councillor Kurt Balderston says volunteers’ efforts and knowledge are key to connecting with people in our community and creating a better place to call home.

“The County is fortunate to have thousands of dedicated and caring volunteers who make a significant difference to life in our communities, It’s especially important to have individuals investing time in mentoring our youth.” Said Kurt Balderston.
