Thieves target GPMBA equipment storage sheds at Evergreen Park

Grande Prairie Minor baseball says several items have been stolen from their equipment storage units located at Evergreen Park.

It happened sometime between 4:30 Sunday afternoon and 7 am Monday morning.

Grande Prairie Minor baseball vice-president Neil Weston describes some of the items that were taken.

“A John Deere zero degree lawn mower, a Polaris sportsman quad, chainsaws, Stihl sweepers with the brooms on the end of them and multi-tools like a weed wacker, and jerry cans of gas, as well as some smaller handheld tools.

Weston says it is unfortunate that someone would do this to a non-profit group that provides an activity for youth.

“We do not have any equipment to mow the grass, and (Monday) with the rain it would have been a great day to aerate the property. We have 11 diamonds out here that need to be aerated, but when you have kids on them all of the time, it is tough to do. (Monday) would have been a great day to get them aerated because we are only using one diamond with the public school division academy until tonight.”

“Grande Prairie Minor Baseball will survive and we will get through it. We have already had a couple of businesses that have said they will donate us some lawn mowers and stuff in the meantime, so that is amazing.”

“When youth sports are victimized, the good people in Grande Prairie step up to make sure that we will get through it.”

RCMP are investigating the break-in.

Weston says anyone seeing or hearing about any of these items being sold on Facebook Marketplace or anywhere else, should contact the police or the Minor Ball office.
