WASP to host industry open house in Wembley

Jun 7, 2022 | 6:00 AM

The Wapiti Area Synergy Partnership (WASP) is hosting an open house at 5:30 pm, Tuesday, June 7, at the Source Energy Arena and Recreation Centre in Wembley.

Wapiti Area Synergy Partnership facilitator Holly Sorgen says many things are happening in Alberta that are big topics in the energy industry and some other things she believes to be major talking points at the open house…

“There’s quite a volume of exploration happening, prices are good, so we’re gonna take advantage of that and I think most people just wanna know how we’re gonna use roads, what’s the plan on how we’re using water and some of that bigger stuff is, what’s the plan to get that stuff to market.”

Sorgen says WASP was put together with a goal to connect concerned people, adding it is a great event to network. Industry stakeholders will be present, running booths and answering any questions residents may have for them.

Alberta Energy Regulator CEO Laurie Pushor will be present to update community members on what they’re doing on the regulatory side.

“The Wapiti Area Synergy Partnership was a group put together with the goal of bringing together industry stakeholders, land owners, and residents who might have concerns about industry and development in the area. Our organization, specifically we meet monthly, very regularly, to bring topics, to connect and network between industry and residents as well.”

Sorgen mentioned their group was created to bring these types of open house events to the area and hopes the turnout will be good.

“The fact we have some not great weather means hopefully we will have a lot of our producers in agriculture and farmers coming out as well. Were all impacted by what’s happening in the industry (energy and agriculture) and this is an awesome opportunity to ask those questions we might have and know more.”
