Lekisch second person to seek NDP nomination in Central Peace-Notley

A woman from Fairview has announced she will seek the NDP nomination in Central Peace-Notley for the next provincial election.

Lynn Lekisch lives on the farm she grew up on and has worked as an environmental scientist, registered agrologist and a certified engineering technologist.

She thinks that background gives her a broad perspective in a lot of different areas.

“We have a lot of Crown land here, a lot of public land that is used for Forest Management Areas and to be able to understand that concept so that you don’t isolate those individuals that actually derive their income in those regions or how they’re affected (is important).”

She adds focusing on rural issues will be one of her priorities.

“If we were closer to larger centres then, yes, we would have to incorporate large, urban centres, but because we don’t really have any in this constituency, then yes, rural issues and how it pertains to health care and education.”

Lekisch says she has been a long-time party supporter.

“I’ve been a supporter of the NDP in several different constituencies over the past decade.”

“I was born and raised up here. When we moved back up to Central Peace-Notley, we got involved with the NDP again on the constituency level.”

Megan Ciurysek will also run for the NDP nomination in Central Peace-Notley.

A date for a nomination meeting has not been set.

A provincial election is due next May.
