La Glace Fire Hall Grand Opening on Sunday

Jun 10, 2022 | 1:16 PM

The new La Glace Fire Hall is finally able to host a Grand Opening for the public to attend and check out their new facility this Sunday.

From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on June 12, there will be a celebration held at the new building with a free barbecue lunch, bouncy castle, Junior Firefighter relay, STARS as well as Casey the Fire Dog and Sparky. County councilors and firefighters will also be present for the celebration.

The Fire Hall cost over $2 million and was made possible by a $1.57 million grant through the provincial Municipal Sustainability Initiative. The project began in 2018 and the facility has been in operation since July 2020.

County of Grande Prairie Reeve Leanne Beaupre said in a news release “The County expresses thanks to the Government of Alberta for investing in our community infrastructure.”

“Community wellness and safety is one of six key themes identified in Council’s strategic planning and the new La Glace Fire Hall is providing improved safety for the community and our firefighters,” she said.

The La Glace Fire Department is the only organization that provides large animal rescue in the County on top of fire fighting duties.

The building has spaces for training, public education, meetings, maintenance, office needs, as well as equipment and apparatus storage. There is also a dedicated equipment decontamination area, which provides increased safety for the firefighters.
