National unemployment rate hits new record low, local jobless rate holds steady
The unemployment rate for the economic region that includes Grande Prairie and the Peace region held steady in May.
It remains at 4.7 per cent, the second-lowest rate in the province behind only the 4.6 per cent rate in the Camrose-Drumheller region.
Provincially the jobless rate fell to 5.3 per cent, compared with 5.9 per cent in April, as almost 15-thousand fewer Albertans were looking for work in May.
Meanwhile, the national unemployment rate has fallen to a record low as the country reports an additional 40-thousand jobs were added in May.
