Bad Shot, Good Find

Stolen items recovered and returned to Grande Prairie Minor Baseball

Some groundskeeping items for the baseball diamonds at Evergreen Park that were stolen recently have been found by a group of disc golf players.

The Grande Prairie Minor Baseball Associations storage Sea Cans were broken into sometime between Sunday, June 5 at 4:30 p.m. and Monday, June 6 at 7 a.m.

Neil Weston, Vice President of GPMBA says on Tuesday a few men playing disc golf at the Evergreen course located three of their larger pieces of equipment.

“One of them messed up his tee shot really bad and they walked down the side of the hill that they were on and noticed the items in the treeline, so they called the RCMP… the RCMP called myself and our President and we went down there to confirm it was ours and got it back to the diamonds.”

The GPMBA’s John Deere zero-degree lawn mower, Polaris sportsman quad, and John Deere gator were all recovered in running condition.

Weston is happy to have their larger pieces of equipment back, but says a couple of chainsaws, Stihl and Kombi multi-tool attachments: weedwhacker and broom, and other tools like drills, hammers, wrenches, jerry cans, trash pump and hoses, landscaping rakes, shovels; “will probably never be found.”

“The find is great! I would really like to thank a couple of local businesses that stepped up and helped us out the last two weeks; Keddie’s Trailers donated us a lawn mower to use in the meantime. The Welding Shop Grande Prairie came out and fabbed up a bunch of stuff on our Sea Cans so that somebody can’t just cut the locks and get into them,” Weston mentioned.

“The break-in was unfortunate but we managed to get through it and now that we have our lawnmower and other things back, we can carry on as usual I hope.”

The equipment was found just in time for the Mid Summer Invitational Tournament this upcoming weekend (June 17-19) for U11 to U18 teams at Evergreen Park.
