Comedy For A Cause coming to Grande Prairie

Jun 18, 2022 | 7:00 AM

Grande Prairie will be holding a charity Comedy Show at the Douglas J. Cardinal Performance Centre Saturday, June 25.

Comedy for a Cause is an act made up of some of the best Canadian Comedians who visit communities across the country and do shows with 50% of the proceeds going to a local charity.

There is also a show Friday, June 24 in Dawson Creek.

Alex Mackenzie, a founder of the Comedy For A Cause Tour and a stand-up comedian, says he quit his day job, sold his house, and bought an RV all to make people laugh and help non-for-profits while he does it…

“Comedy For A Cause is a strictly stand-up comedy event featuring the best comedians across the country. You know these guys have been on Netflix, HBO, Just For Laughs, and Comedy Central, and we’re basically touring around communities and partnering with local non-profits in an effort to raise money and give back to the communities,” said Mackenzie.

Mackenzie said other than helping out non-for-profits, he’s most excited to get on stage and be laughing together with everyone again.

” It feels like coming out of the pandemic and there’s so much pain and hurt and I think this is something everyone needs and can get behind, I love laughing and comedy and I can’t think of a better way to give back then to give people laughter.”

Mackenzie said he does have a soft spot for Grande Prairie, receiving his third concussion here playing hockey and being a Prince George local he feels he can connect with the residents very well…

“People in Grande Prairie are so fun and they love laughing! Grande Prairie is a hard-working bunch, they work hard all week and on the weekends they seem to come out and play, I’m a domesticated hillbilly is how I describe myself. I live in the city now but I’m from out there and my funniest friends are my hillbilly friends.”

The comedians performing are:

  • Alex Mackenzie
  • Sophia Johnson
  • Chris Griffin
  • Sunee Dhaliwal

Mackenzie said people should expect a good show but will be more tailored for an 18+ audience.

The show starts at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 25, and you can get your tickets by clicking here.
