Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for most of northwest Alberta

Jun 20, 2022 | 7:09 PM

Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms this evening for the majority of northwestern Alberta.

Severe thunderstorm watches are in effect for:

  • Grande Prairie – Beaverlodge – Valleyview
  • Peace River – Fairview – Manning – High Prairie
  • High Level – Rainbow Lake – Fort Vermillion – Mackenzie Highway
  • Hinton – Grande Cache
  • Whitecourt – Edson – Fox Creek – Swan Hills

Environment Canada says storms that develop could be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roadways.

These alerts are issued when atmospheric conditions could produce potentially dangerous weather like large hail, damaging winds and torrential rainfall. The weather office says to go indoors during inclement weather.
