Weekend fire displaces eight residents in Westpointe

Damage is estimated at around 150 thousand dollars after a fire in the Westpointe neighbourhood on Saturday.

City fire crews arrived on the scene to find smoke and flames engulfing a kitchen at the back of the house.

Cooking oil igniting due to high heat is reported to be the cause of the blaze with smoke spreading throughout the house.

Firefighters worked for several hours before extinguishing the flames.

No word on if any neighbouring properties were affected by the fire.

No injuries were reported but the blaze did displace a total of eight people.
