La Glace student wins national contest for Remembrance Day essay
Kate Goodward has been nationally recognized for her essay The Poppy, which was written and submitted for The Royal Canadian Legion and The Legion National Foundation’s annual literacy contest.
Goodward is a Grade 9 student at La Glace School and her essay won first place at the Sexsmith Branch #60 before moving onto the Legion’s Provincial level, and then went on to the Legion National Foundation in Ottawa, where it placed first yet again.
She said in a news release she was caught off guard by the announcement. “I didn’t expect to win at the national level, because I didn’t think the Intermediate level made it that far.”
Goodward is the first local student to ever earn a national title for the contest.
