Two new full-ride scholarships at NWP

Jun 28, 2022 | 9:05 AM

Pipestone Energy Corp. has dedicated two new scholarships to Northwestern Polytechnic first-year students.

Cherene Griffiths, Vice President of External Relations at NWP says Pipestone Energy Corp. made the scholarships because of “their commitment to the Indigenous community.”

“They would really like to see more Indigenous students access post-secondary education,” she says.

The Pipestone Entrance Scholarships are ‘full-ride’ and for applicants in the following:

  • First-year of any NWP Credit Program for an Indigenous student
  • First-year Bachelor of Engineering

Dr. Vanessa Sheane, Provost and Vice President Academic at NWP says the Bachelor of Engineering program offered at the post-secondary institution is a one-year university transfer.

“They can complete their first year of the program here, and then they transfer to the University of Alberta to complete their degree.”

Dr. Sheane says “I think it is a wonderful thing to have entrance scholarships to promote uptake of post-secondary education in the area, also to increase the accessibility for students in the area in programs that they can start with us, but can’t complete the entire program at NWP.”

Griffiths notes the two new scholarships “will join a suite of over 230 scholarships, bursaries and awards that the institution currently has available to students.”

Registration for the Fall 2022 semester is now open, you can register for the program of your choice on NWP’s website.
