Blue-Green Algae blooms advisory has been issued for Saskatoon Lake

Jul 12, 2022 | 6:31 PM

Alberta Health Services has issued a blue-green algae bloom advisory for Saskatoon Lake.

AHS is telling visitors to take the following precautions:

  • avoid all contact with blue-green algae blooms
  • do not swim or wade in areas with blooms
  • do not feed fish or fish trimmings to pets.
  • Consider limiting the consumption of fish from the lake

Swimming and recreational lake use are still permitted in areas of the lake without blue-green algae blooms.

People who come in contact with visible blue-green algae or who ingest water containing blue-green algae may experience skin irritation, rash, sore throat, sore red eyes, swollen lips, fever, nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea.

Symptoms usually appear within one to three hours and resolve in one to two days.

If you suspect a problem with blue-green algae or want further information call 811.
